My Bro on KXCI Last Night
My brother had an appearance on Laurie Starr’s Starr Tracks last night on KXCI. He spun for about two hours and only played one song purloined from my music collection.
In the spirit of my previous post about presidential candidates and their song selections (and this one too), here were the songs that Tom played on the show:
- Mekons - “Empire of the Senseless”
- Wall of Voodoo - “Far Side of Crazy”
- Carmaig DeForrest - “Hey Judas”
- Giant Sand - “Town Where No Town Belongs”
- Sand Rubies - “Santa Maria Street”
- Ry Cooder (Featuring Lalo Guerrero) - “Barrio Viejo”
- Cathy Rivers - “Arms of Mexico”
- Paul Revere & The Raiders featuring Mark Lindsay - “Kicks”
- Neko Case - “Hold On, Hold On”
- River Roses - “Not The One”
- Julieta Venegas - “Limon y Sal”
- Jon Rauhouse (Featuring Kelly Hogan) - “Big Iron”
- Phantom Limbs - “Formaldehyde”
- Warren Zevon - ”Veracruz”
- Yardbirds - “Still I’m Sad”
- Concrete Blonde y Los Illegals - “La Llorona”
- DeVotchKa - “The Enemy Guns”
- Los Tigres del Norte - “Somos Mas Americanos”
- Los Tigres del Norte - “Tres Veces Mojado”
- Drywall - “Goin’ On Down to the BBQ”
- Mareva Galanter - “Porquoi Pas Moi”
Tom managed to throw in seven Tucson based artists (two are broken up but so what?) and one Phoenix based one. This was probably done to outdo Don Jennings’s Locals Only show that came on right afterward.

I only count six Tucson based artists. Maybe you are counting Jon Rauhouse or DeVotchKa, since they recorded in Tucson.

Ted,
Your Bro’s nickname is “Cable Guy”, respectfully.

Okay, I checked the list, where are the Polish artists?

Neko Case is of Ukranian descent. Does that count?
Also, Howe (Giant Sand) Gelb grew up in a part of Pennsylvania dominated by Polish-American people and is related to several such families by marriage.

What? You could only play one Neko song? For shame.

The songs were selected and grouped thematically. It just happened that “Hold On, Hold On” fit very well with the two songs on either side. I love Neko too, but don’t they play enough of her on KXCI?
