Remind Me Again?

I sometimes post on Daily Kos, and usually regret it.

If I have a post on here that I think has national interest, I’ll “crosspost” it to Daily Kos. I have to admit that part of the reason is to drive traffic over here.  Kos likely has more readers in Arizona than I do. Every time I post over there, I find out that we on the left can be just as knee-jerk paranoid and free of the burden of evidence as our friends on the right. Sometimes replies to what I write end up being lectures on how if I should be a better Democrat or how I neglected to mention some obscure “fact” that is crucial to understanding that everything is Karl Rove’s fault. I guess the only comfort I can take is that our knee-jerk paranoids don’t run legislative committees.

The funny thing, with all the paranoid posts over there, I’m the guy that they jump on for “lack of evidence.”

Case in point: last week, I crossposted the goings on between the YDA and the DNC over at Kos.  Heck, I thought the people over at Kos would like it, those guys always love a good DNC bashing. Then I got a strange response. To my assertion that the DNC was resisting YDA calls for more youth in our convention delegations, a poster named Mini Mum said this:

…this is an assumption.  Unless you can back this up with something substantial, it’s your word against theirs.

My post included an account of actions at the meeting by staff and one committee chair that demonstrated opposition to the YDA proposal. Plus, I had posted something else. You know what gave me the idea that the DNC didn’t like what the YDA proposal? If I may paraphrase David Cross, because they effin’ said it. I linked to a letter from the DNC to the YDA opposing the proposal, but she admitted to refusing to read it:

As for checking out what the DNC says, I’ve passed along a suggestion to YDA that they put the actual pdfs up and not downloads.  I’m not saving a file just so I can read it.

So, she refused to look at the evidence, and then got on my back for not proving my case.

It reminded me of this silly Republican operative I met during the 1992 race.  She claimed that Bill Clinton lied about graduating from college (eh?) and it was up to me to prove that he had graduated. I told her that he had been a law professor for a few years so it was unlikely that he would have been hired if he didn’t have a degree. She told me, “prove it, where is his diploma?” as if I should have been carrying it in my pocket.

This is even more bizarre, since Mini Mum is claiming that I haven’t “proven” that the DNC is opposed even though they are on record as doing so. I suppose I must next “prove” that Jon Kyl opposes an increase in the minumum wage and “prove” that Kyrsten Sinema has a problem with the Minutemen.

From her posts, I got the idea that Mini Mum is a “Deaniac” and that he or she would brook nothing even resembling criticism of him. The funny thing, and I noted this, is that Dean got support from the YDA when he ran for chair, and their political director is a former Dean staffer. Most “Deaniacs” that have gotten involved with the party have a realistic view of the DNC and a nuanced opinion of Dean’s leadership. But, not being able to read criticism of an institution because of who runs it is a sure sign of fanatical hero worship rather than caring about issues.

Anyhow, I’ve already written too much about this. The next time I have an urge to post at Kos, y’all stop me, okay?

  • In certain cities, like Manhattan, there are bad neighborhoods where soft white guys like me are seen as juicy fruit to be plucked for money, amusing harassment, or worse. If I wish to see such neighborhoods, I ride the bus. While possible, odds are very low that folks mess with folks on the bus.

DailyKos is such a place for me personally. I will ride the bus occasionally, read some posts and remarks. BUT I NEVER GET OUT OF THE BUS.

If you start posting material after the articles in the online Star, I will contact your brother and recommend psychiatric intervention.

  • I’m sick of the online wactivists, to borrow a phrase. It used to be kind of cute when someone would jump on another person for not correctly bashing an elected Dem for not sufficiently blaming everything on Bush and other Dems who weren’t liberal enough, but after seeing posts like “does anyone really think we still have a democracy?,” “the democratic party is dead,” and “Bush is about to attack Iran RIGHT NOW” be taken seriously over and over again it’s just pathetic.

  • Tsk, tsk, Tedski. You’ve been accused of being a left deviationist.
