Some Fixes

Some of you may have noticed that sometimes you log on to this blog, and there will be a blue screen. This isn’t supposed to happen.  Without being too technical, I set up one “template” and customized it, but for no apparent reason it will change to a generic “default” template. I don’t know exactly why this occurs.

I spoke to Kevin Spidel, who uses the same software I do for his blog, and he had a couple of suggestions. I also wrote to the folks at DreamHost, who host this blog. Eric Lybeck and I followed their instructions and things seem to have gotten better. If any of you see this problem again, please write me a note.

One more technical point: a few of you who use Netscape and Firefox have complained about the formatting of the pictures. With those browsers, text runs right up against the pictures. It is still readable but irritating. I include a “hspace=10″ command in the HTML code for the pictures, but that only seems to effect the formatting in Internet Explorer. Those of you who have more experience poking around with this stuff, feel free to send me suggestions.

  • Does this mean that I will finally be able to access this site on my BlackBerry? Can’t right now….going through withdrawal….nothing to read in the car (kidding…sorta)

  • Hey Ted,

I read that hspace and vspace are depreciated in html 4.01, so that could be the problem. Check out the examples here using inline styles and padding for the quickest way to change it (although you might want to mess with your stylesheet to make it more automatic in the future.
