One More Detail About the…Um…Staff Changes At the Republican Party
Today was the day that everyone decided to write to me about the story printed in the Republic this morning that, apparently, the state Republican party will have no paid employees after next week. Yes, I knew this. I was first tipped of to this on Monday when someone named Mike posted it to this blog. So, I may not have scooped the Republic, but a member of the R Cubed community did. That’s almost like me, right?
Anyhow, over at Wactivist, they make the point that the Republican Party in this state was already in quite a bit of trouble anyhow. Even with the election of Lisa James, they would have only seen more of the same (at best), and same wasn’t getting them anywhere.
Here is something a bit funny. One of the resigning staff members is Garrick Taylor (at whom Wactivist and I both had fun poking at some of the strange sound bites he delivered in this last cycle, what more could he have done defending Len Munsil though?). As you all know, Randy Pullen was one of the leaders behind Proposition 200, and many of his supporters advocate a Stalag 17 border policy. One can imagine that they want the “new” Republican party to reflect this priority. Taylor’s last occupation before working for the Republican Party? Director of policy development for the Border Trade Alliance, which, although not necessarilly a pro-immigration group, advocates for more buisiness and, yes, labor ties with our neighbors to the South. Taylor’s thoughts can be found on that group’s BorderBlog, you can check the archives.
How long would that little arrangement have worked?

Most people consider it a bad thing that there is staff turnover at the GOP State Party. We lost 2 congressional seats and several legislative seats.
The last thing I am worried about is not having paid staff come next week. I do not know whom Randy will find to replace the outgoing crowd but I am not sad to see a change.

There is only one problem with the new site. A link to a certain blog is missing. I think you know which blog I am talking about. Don’t make me turn the Photoshop on you.
