Arizona Bill
I recieved a terse, but probably deserved, e-mail about my use of Arizona Bill. I have used this character on a couple of occassions when I want to illustrate a post about the legislature. I did not give proper credit to the creator of Arizona Bill, Bob Richards.
Richards was the son of a chief clerk of the Arizona House and he designed the character back in 1977 to illustrate the pamphlet “Arizona Bill: How ‘Bill’ Becomes Law.” The pamphlet is still given away by the state legislature and is a good summary of the way our process works in Arizona. Legislative staff and leadership still think enough of the pamphlet that a *.pdf version of it is posted on ALIS, the legislative website.
For those of you that don’t like cartoons, a more mundane version of this, “From Idea…to Bill…to Law” was written by Senator (later Senate President) Randall Gnatt in 1995. The 2000 version is posted on ALIS as well. Like Gnatt, it is no fun what so ever.

[...] NB - The above illustration was created by Bob Richards. I wrote a bit about its history here. [...]
