Working the Refs
So, I’m a bit confused. This may be the paranoid activist in me, but it seems like every time Jim Pederson runs a new ad, it takes ten minutes before the Star is regurgitating Jon Kyl’s press release as an “ad watch.” In the meantime, the Minutemen have this ad with various claims about Gabrielle Giffords that seem to have been pulled out of thin air, and no “ad watch.”
What is up with that?
Well, they had one piece in Political Notebook that seemed to chalk this up to just another political argument (a “gripe”), as if there are no claims that can be independently verified.
Even the Minutemen’s own documentation of the ad shows the claims to be, at best, shakier than improperly made Jell-O. For example, the ridiculous claim that Giffords supports extending Social Security benefits to illegal aliens is based on nothing that Giffords has said or done, but on a vote that was taken by John McCain and Ted Kennedy against an ammendment.
Oh, and by the way, anyone check into how these ads were paid for?

Tedski,
You got me, and great point about the funding from your earlier post. Shows sharp radar on your part.
I ranted about the Minuteman ad here and also wonder about the Ad Watch coverage.
All that flak over a “night time vote” and nothing about this?
Perhaps they have double or triple standards of some kind. Certain folks have to have ads that are bulletproof, some can slide by with acceptable level of slimy innuendo, and finally, we have the kooks that can just make up whatever they want.

Yeah, but give Graf a break– if you run in the circles that he does, you’d figure that all Democrats are a fifth column who take their marching orders from Ted Kennedy, who in turn gets his from some secret, shadowy communist dominated international committee. Heck, if you told them that the United Nations was conspiring with the Democrats to fly undocumented Mexicans over the border in black helicopters, they’d probably tell you something like, ‘yeah, I heard that already.’
These are people who think ‘establishment Republican’ means a member of the John Birch society.
